Hi everyone,
My name is Sonia Dent and for those of you who don’t already know me, I’ll be your President for the next year, my 2nd time in the role. I live locally, I’ve been a member of the club for over 15 years, and I’ve been on committee for several years too. My chosen charity for this year is Ickle Pickles, a children's charity. The Ickle Pickles offer a unique opportunity to help vulnerable babies at a critical time in their lives. Something, very close to my heart as both my grandsons were born prematurely, both needing the help and support of the neonatal unit at Portsmouth QA Hospital. The Charity supports neonatal units around the Country including Portsmouth. I have lots of ideas and events planned for the forthcoming year, some of which are listed below, but if you have any ideas for future events or ways we can improve the club, please do get in touch so we can chat more. My contact details are: Soniadent71@hotmail.co.uk or by mobile 07984 266544. I would love to hear from you. Supporting me with running the club this year will be our new committee: Secretary (Steve Avis) Treasurer (Lyn Avis) Andy Greene (Past President) Lesley Bleach Abby Bowley Sammi Owen Sheila Harding Sarah Smith Tricia Bever Phil Thomas Mike Stubbs (adopted a committee member at the first meeting following the AGM.) Each of the committee members listed above, also sit on one or more of the following Committees: Bar, Building and Entertainments Entertainment Committee The entertainment committee are responsible for helping plan and run events throughout the year. The Secretary post is there to ensure the Club complies with financial and legal requirements and the Treasurer role is to keep an eye on all aspects of financial management, working closely with the committee to safeguard the Clubs finances. These 2 key posts are currently filled by Steve and Lyn Avis. They have openly voiced that they do not want to carry out these roles on a long term basis. If you are interested in any of these post (there is an honorarium payment for each post) then please can you contact them direct, and they will be only too happy to give you further information about the roles. These posts are key and without them the club would not be able to run. Goodwood - Friday 29th July

President Farewell Event SATURDAY 7th May 2002 7pm til late Dear Members As President, it is customary to have a leaving function to mark the end of term. This is a chance for me to bow out and make way for this years President. More importantly, it is also an opportunity for both the club and myself to thank you all for your support during such challenging times. I am delighted to announce that bearing in mind all the uncertainty that has gone before we are going to make this event FREE to members and temporary members (limited by capacity). We will be hosting the Electric Eighty band that got rave reviews earlier in the year and as President I will be facilitating a Free Balti and Naan for everyone attending. It promises to be a fantastic bash and spaces must be pre booked. This will be a closed event meaning only those who pre booked can attend in order to safely manage the numbers and the food This will also be the first opportunity to host an event and mark the installation of our new bar. HOW TO BOOK - important As the club will be closing for refurbishment shortly the ONLY way to book is by email at thecarltonclub@yahoo.co.uk
Any spaces still available at 10am Monday 25th of April will be opened up to the guests of members on a first come first served basis Thank you for your continued support. Andy Green President Dear Members
I hope you are all safe and well. As my time in office nears its conclusion I would like to thank all of those that supported the club during a very difficult time. Thanks to The diligence of our treasurer and Secretary the club were well insured against the losses that would of occurred due to Covid closures and restrictions. As a result the club has found itself in a position to refurbish and extend the bar without any impact on membership fees. The bar has performed admirably during the last 20 years. We expect the refurbishment to see us improve the visual look of the bar as well as creating better functionality for our staff behind the bar. In addition there will be extra serving capacity for busy nights. This should see us well into the foreseeable future. It is important to note that the cost of living rises that are affecting us all right now has resulted in some increases to bar tariffs. These are only in line with brewery increases and are consistent with our bar policy that has been in place for a number of years and long before Covid times. We will continue to put on free and subsidised events featuring live music and often food where possible. The Carlton Club hopes to welcome everyone back as and when they feel safe to do so. The club can only thrive with attendance and I look forward to seeing you when you are able. Here are some dates for your diary Kind Regards Andy Entertainment Good Friday 15th April The Club will be hosting a FREE event for Members, their families and their guests. We will be open from 2pm on Good Friday and there is no need to book. The popular Nuthin Yet Band will be playing early evening from around 6pm There will be a selection of complimentary hot nibbles being passed out to keep the munchies at bay Kojak's Revenge - 23rd April Unfortunately this is CANCELLED due to the bar refurbishment We are exploring available dates when we can reschedule this event. Electric 80- Sat 7th May The very popular Electric 80 is back This will be the Outgoing Presidents farewell function Ticket and full event details will follow shortly Queen's Jubilee Sat 4th June Event planned for Saturday 4th June 2022 - Afternoon & Evening 1pm til late Details to follow shortly but this will be Festival vibe entertainment, afternoon for families and evening entertainment for adults. Save the date it’s sure to be one of the events of the year Goodwood - 29th July 2022 The club are undecided about running this event due to rising costs and unknown level of support. In order for the club to commit funds for booking Coaches and Tickets for this event we need members to register their interest by sending an email with their likely party size to thecarltonclub@yahoo.co.uk. Tickets will be £45 per person if we go ahead. The alternative would be to run a virtual event in the garden with the televised race action shown on the big screen inside. This was successful during Covid times previously |
